Nvidia Donates $10 Million to Nepal Flood Recovery

Q: Where was Nvidia's Nepal flood donation deposited?

The contribution was deposited into Nepal's Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund through Himalayan Bank.

Far from Nvidia's headquarters in California, more than 50 Nepali employees were watching the destruction back home. They wanted the company powering the global AI boom to help Nepal—and their request grew into a $10 million donation, worth roughly Rs 1.5 billion, for flood relief and recovery.

A Request That Travelled From Nepal to Nvidia

The story began inside Nvidia. As the scale of the Bhotekoshi flood became clear, Nepali employees urged the US technology company to support rescue and reconstruction efforts. Ashok Pandey, Aarti Neupane and other Nepali colleagues reportedly helped move the initiative forward.

Nvidia and its co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang then contributed $10 million to Nepal's Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. The money was deposited through Himalayan Bank, making it the largest assistance Nepal has received from a technology company since the August 26 disaster and one of the country's biggest corporate relief donations.

What the Nvidia Donation Means for Nepal

Ten million dollars is enormous for a single corporate donation in Nepal. It also arrives when the country is facing a recovery effort far larger than any one contribution. Floods and landslides have destroyed homes, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure, while many families are still dealing with loss, displacement and uncertainty.

The contribution is expected to support both urgent needs and the longer work of rebuilding:

Search and rescue operations
Emergency food and shelter
Rehabilitation of affected families
Reconstruction of infrastructure

Following Nvidia's contribution, the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund reportedly crossed Rs 10 billion. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle thanked Huang and expressed hope that the gift would encourage more companies and individuals to support Nepal.

What began as concern among Nepali employees became one of the biggest corporate contributions to Nepal's flood-recovery effort.

More Than a Headline About a Tech Giant

Nvidia is usually in the news for artificial intelligence, powerful graphics chips and its remarkable rise into one of the world's most valuable companies. In Nepal, however, the familiar black jacket of Jensen Huang and the company's AI success are not the heart of this story.

The heart of it is much simpler: Nepalis working thousands of kilometres away saw their country in pain, spoke up inside one of the world's biggest companies and helped turn that concern into real support.

A Donation Cannot Rebuild Nepal Alone

The floods have caused damage measured in billions of dollars, and recovery will take years. Nvidia's contribution cannot restore every home, road or livelihood. But it can strengthen rescue, relief and rehabilitation—and it sends a powerful signal that global companies can respond when the communities connected to their employees need help.

Effective recovery will depend on transparent use of the relief fund, clear reporting and support reaching affected families quickly. The size of a donation matters, but so does how responsibly every rupee is spent.
